Handmade Beeswax Products
My husband, Peter, and I are beekeepers living on the outskirsts of Morpeth . We started keeping our first beehives in our previous garden, but we now have a four apiaries which are situated in a variety of locations. One on a lovely farm a few miles away, another on a farm a little further away in the Ponteland area and finally in the wonderful Nothumberland Zoo site in Eshottheugh. This Spring we have started the beekeeping year with a total of 12 beehives.
I started experimenting making beeswax candles using the extra wax left over after extracting the honey from our honeycombs. There is often too much wax to return it all back to the hives, and because the bees work so hard to make their beautiful wax, I didn't want to see it go to waste. Since then my range of beeswax produc-ts has increased as you will see in my shop.
With my eldest daughter's encouragement, I also started making beeswax food wraps, and they have been a great success. Selling these natural and eco friendly products, as well as our honey, has meant we have been able to maintain the number of beehives each year.
